What are some good careers in aviation?

in Aircraft

A-Guy-Without-A-Hat :

I LOVE airplanes. Not only do I want to have one of my own, but also have a career involving aviation. I am looking for a good paying job (preferably $80,000+) If possible I would like to work with smaller planes, such as cessnas. Whatever it may be, It needs to have enough to own a small plane (like a cessna 172), make enough to support myself, and eventually support a family.

I’ve heard being a commercial pilot is a good job. You make over $100k a year, and I think you only work 2/3 of the year doing it. You also get to travel the world! How bad could that job be? You might even get good deals (or even free) on travel for yourself and your family.

There’s a difference between loving aircraft and working in the industry. When you’re a commercial pilot you follow a computer program to get you from point A to point B. That’s not the romance of flight. Go to any airshow and count the number of commercial pilots that are owners. They can’t afford it. If you want screen flight performance go for game boy. If you want to feel it in the seat of your pants? get a real job and buy your own

An A&P (Aircraft mechanic) is the best way to do that.. If you work for yourself you can eventually make money. You can make money being a commercial pilot but its harder and a longer road to the top

Be an engineer, be in airport management, aerospace insurance. These are the jobs that pay well. Working with with small cessnas won’t earn you enough money to own one.

It all depends on who you ask, and it is up to your personal preference on what you want to do. Being in commercial aviation is perfect for some. I personally can think of nothing else I would ever want to do. Others don’t feel the same way, but it is up to you. If the point A to point B is not for you there are some good opportunities with Business aviation, such as charter companies, or even being a corporate pilot. There are SO many different jobs out there. There are many jobs in aviation, but the only ones I would ever want are the ones located at 32,000 feet. I recommend reading the book “Professional Pilot’s Career Guide” It is a very good resource.
