I am planning to get enlisted on 1st feb. My recruiter told me he can gurantee me a field but can not gurantee me a specific mos since im goin to active….also he asked me to go enlist open contract and then he will make a change on my contract frm open contract to mos field….will it be okay to do? I dunt mind going on the front lines i just dont wanna end up being a cook or sumthing……and i have made up my mind wid joining nutting but USMC…..can der be any issues wid my contract…..since we gn change it frm open to specific field? Also i wanna do something wid computers more likely networking and setting it up n stuff? I do meet up asvab requirements for all the jobs in aviation n data field……i just wanted to knw which field would b better for me to join data/comm or aviation/avionics….my recruiter said all the jobs in 5900,6300,6400,6600 are pretty much computer jobs……the other field 0600 is computer jobs as well but it is attached to 1100 which utilities…..which would b better for me to join so if i decide to come bk to civilian world i can use my experience frm military…..any specific mos wid computer programming or networking or troubleshooting? So far i have found 0651,0656 and 6694…..any other recommendations? Thank u for ur time

OK Budd – been there on this one but a very long time ago. Same advice still applies.
DON’T go open contract. Go aviation guaranteed! That is all that needs to be put into our contract. IF you want to tighten it a bit, ask for an aviation MOS in aviation hydraulics, power plants, avionics, electronics, structural mechanic (metal smith), aviation supply. When you leave the Corps in 4 years, you will be able to translate these fields into a JOB. Can’t say the same for infantry, MP, or other lower numbered MOSs with the exception of 44xx (computers).
